Have a field appear depending on the status of another field

I have a form in which I have two fields. Say one field is a choice drop down for "yes" or "no". Is there a way I can have another field conditionally appear based on the "yes/no" field. ie....if field 1 returns "yes" then field 2 for "why did you answer yes" appears. and if field 1 returns "no" then field 2 does not appear.

Sincerely,

Sean Burke

    Hi Sean,

it sounds like this is exactly what you need.

    check out

That looks like a good solution but are there any solutions that do not require java? ie...are there options in the CRM to complete this action?

    No,

This is exactly what javascript is used for, client side changes based on field events.

if crm did it by itself, it would probably use javascript to do it.

remember, for crm to do anything with data, it has to be posted back to the server - which adds latency.

javascript happens on your machine (and, obviously requires javascript to be enabled in your browser).

Gotcha. Do you know if this will work in the Outlook Client since Java script is usually webbased?

    Yes, it should work.

i havent actually tried hideing any of our fields in the outlook client.

i will try this on my test server when i get home tonight if you'd like.

If it isn't too much trouble that would be great if you could give it a try and let me know.

Hi Mark....I wanted to check in and see if you had a chance to give dependent fields with Java script a try in the outlook client? We really want to confirm it works before putting any resources into creating the java script.

    Hi,

Sorry that took so long, working long hours.

anywho, looks like no web resources (including javascript) work on the outlook reading pane.

but, if you double click on the entity in out look, it opens it up in internet explorer, which will have the javascript.

    Regards,

    Mark Spiers
