Is CRM Online the same as CRM on-prem in terms of back-end connectivity?

Posted on by 285

I'm currently using this library to connect a custom-made website to the CRM for data operations and retrieval.

I was wondering if transitioning from on-premise to online would make me have to use another method to connect to the CRM, or if all the current website functionality can be kept the same, besides the discovery URL and authentication credentials.

I've looked over this list of differences and restrictions of CRM online, but not much is mentioned about the back-end connectivity. The rest of the limitations we're fine with.

    Hello,

2015 is not available in online. You can get 9.0, 8.2 or 8.1 versions I'm afraid.

Am I only able to get the Dynamics 365 online version and not the 2015 online version? There could well be other compatibility issues with web resources and plugins if we transition from on-prem 2015 to online 365.

I was thinking of doing a trial deployment to see if I can connect to it via my current toolkit.

Unfortunately I don't know differences and/or articles that describe it because I'm .Net dev, so I use SDK assemblies to authenticate and connect. The best idea that I have - just check how it is implemented in toolkit I sent reference before and incorporate it in your code.

Hey. Are there any articles that you know of that talk more about the differences? I'd like to know how much work it will be to transition to the new method. The toolkit you linked appears to be for newer versions of PHP. The custom website that we currently have is built on PHP 5.3, so we are kinda forced to use older toolkits, at least for now.

    Hello,

Authentication works differently with OnPrem and Online. I would recommend to use following toolkit if you want to work with CRM from PHP - github.com/.../php-crm-toolkit
