On the Account Format Setup window, at the top it shows Max Account Length & Maximum Segments. Then you enter Account Length & Segments. Then in the scroll area it shows Max. Length for a segment. How is that value computed?  For example I have Max Account Length set to 65 & Max Segments set to 5.  Account Length is set to 6 and Segments set to 2.  In the scroll area Max Length value is 15.  15? huh? how is that computed?  Thanks

Can you get a picture of your account format window into the forum?

The account length in the header of the window is the sum of the length of each segment in the scroll area.

Using Fabrikam you have division at 3, account at 4 and department at 2.  Total 9.  The max however is 6, 6, and 6.  Those three segments could be expanded to a maximum length of 6 should the user wish.

The max length and max segments are skill testing questions answered on time at installation.  You can go to max account 66 and segments 10.  There is also a question of max length of a segment, usually 6, but can be variable.

So in your case you can have up to 5 segments, and the total length of the 5 is 65.  You don't say how many segments you are allowed.

That would make the account length 18 and the Account Length is set to 9!  so the Max Length field makes no sense.  Back to my original ?  how is that value computed?  It confuses people...they think they can enter 6 in each field but again, that goes beyond the set length of 9

    hello

the account length is a keyable field.  You can only change it when no one else is in GP.  So if you were to expand to the max of 6 resulting in 18 you would need to key in the higher value.

If you still need assistance can you post a pic of your set up and the forum will be better able to assist.

I never mentioned anything about changing my account length.  I asked how that Max Length value in the scroll area is computed.  Listen, if you don't know the answer then DO NOT respond, don't try to say anything to gain points.  You confuse people.
