Project Timesheet

Posted on by 540

We've recently upgrade a client to GP 2013 R2 and BP 6.0. There has always been performance issues with BP but in particular, when a user saves a timesheet with a few projects in it, it can take 30 to 45 seconds to save. I don't experience this with other clients using the project timesheet solution.

The client in question has over 20000 projects in GP but the average person may have access to 500-1000. I bring this up only because I'm trying to understand why this one function (saving a timesheet) takes so much longer than any other task.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

    RE: Project Timesheet

We utilize GP 2013 R2 with BP 6.0 without this issue.  We have approximately 500 users entering project time against just over 600 active projects.  We have been doing this for some time now.  We have over 480,000 transactions in the project time sheet history table.  We do not have anything special for a server.  We have a  Windows 2008 R2 server, dual Xeon with 16 GB running in Hyper-V.   If you cannot isolate something with SQL profiler you may need to reach out to Microsoft support.

Pete, just wondering if you might still be having this issue of performance?

We are using BP and our time sheets do not take anywhere near that long.  Many of the staff have 300 to 500 projects and they save almost instantly - no lag that is really noticeable for the user.

How many 'active' projects with time per Time sheet?

The most we have at anyone time is about 100 per time sheet.

Looking for more technical data - share the hardware spec on the server, the workstation for the users.

Is it all USERS or just some?

Pete, that a huge number of projects!  I'm not sure what exactly is degrading your perf, but you could try a sql profile to see if that lends any clues to what is increasing the processing time.

    Thanks

    Rob
