Hello,
You can do that. As a possible workaround you can create action and add parameter to it and call action from workflow.
You might also save that parameter into a new custom field on the entity (that will affect "modifiedon"/"modifiedby", of course)

If you are using that parameter in any step of parent workflow then you can set that in child workflow by navigating to process (from right side navigation where we generally find entities to fetch data).. and there you can find field to be set.
