How do you best handle multiple legal entities in a shared services environment?

We are implementing Dynamics AX 2012R3 for a large international company with 100+ legal entities, using a shared services model for accounting and finance.  Two questions have come up during the project scoping phase, and I am curious if anyone else have encountered these issues, or have ideas of how they are best handled/resolved:

  1. Sharing common data across companies, specifically vendors and customers. Ideally a customer or a vendor should have the same ID/number across all legal entities/companies, while some information would be company specific (payment terms/method, default currency, tax code, etc.).  Similarly, how to share products across all entities?
  2. Viewing data across companies.  For example: see transactions for a customer or vendor across all legal entities, searching for a vendor invoice across legal entities, view GL transactions across multiple entities/companies.

Thanks.

    Hi LLC,

Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 has support for Master Data Management. You can use this to "duplicate" customers, vendors and other master data. Then the ID's can be the same or different depending on the setup. Fields like payment terms can be independently changed.

Data regarding to accounting entries can be shared if you use management reporter. Credit management features can be used to view and analyse open customer transactions across companies. You might need to create customized reports for other information needed to view across legal entities, but for sure it is achievable.

Open transactions can be used in several companies as AX supports centralized payments.
