When installing Dynamics SL client on windows 10 the client will not start. the "this application could not be started" pops up. a link in the error message is to
the Win 10 desktop is fully patched with .net 3.5 and 4.7 installed. UAC is turned off. the drive mapping to the network installation of the app & db was done with "net use /persistent". Antivirus has been disabled.
Additional observation - When attempting to run the install exe or the application from the mapped drive "as administrator" and error pops up "the application cannot be found" and the full UNC path not the mapped drive is referenced in the error. The application cannot be found if run as administrator over the mapped drive (either gui or on command prompt).
My support contractor is at a loss and we are hopeful for any suggestions.
thanks in advance

The only version of SL that I have found to be compatible with Windows 10 is SL 2015 cu2 at 100%
Verify that your version of SL is compatible with the operating system.
We've seen this recently as well. The problem's cause wasn't clearly identified, but it appears that some communication of .NET on the workstation with a remote server is being blocked. Try using a local SL installation on the workstation instead of a thin client to work around the problem - hopefully a temporary issue.
The UNC message is due to bug 36317. A workaround offered by MS Support was to edit the 3 registry entries to replace the invalid UNC with the drive letter mapping used by the installation. I believe there was a hotfix issued but couldn't find that number. The UNC won't be an issue if using a full local program install and accessing the SQL database on the remote server.
Sure you installed, .NET 2.0?
The .NET Framework is an integral part of many applications running on Windows and provides common functionality for those applications to run. Normally, before running/installing such applications, we need to enable .NET Framework from the Control Panel on the computer. So, you may first check if the .NET Framework 3.5 is available in the Control Panel on Windows 10 Technical Preview and if available, you may enable it from the Control Panel to install it on the computer. To check if the.NET Framework 3.5 is available in Control Panel and to enable it, please follow these steps:
a) Press “Windows Logo” + “R” keys on the keyboard.
b) Type “appwiz.cpl” in the “Run” command box and press “ENTER”.
c) In the “Programs and Features” window, click on the link “Turn Windows features on or off”.
d) Check if the “.NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0)” option is available in it.
e) If yes, then enable it and then click on “OK”.
f) Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation and restart the computer, if prompted.
This will install the .NET Framework 3.5 feature on the computer. There is also another way by which .NET Framework 3.5 gets installed on the computer. This is done by the apps on demand.
