Has anyone had issue launching SL 7.0 SP1 Version 7.01.40317? If yes, have you received an error while installing Hotfix 20984?

I appreciate your post above. We opened a ticket with Microsoft and came to the conclusion that we had to update the C++ redist. package. We are all set now. I am sure I will be referencing your post above again.
Thanks,
Chuck
Hi Chuck,
Perhaps it will help if I explain a bit of what I think is happening. You're likely unable to launch SL because the HF will not fully apply. Some of our early hotfixes needed that C++ redist. file in order for swim to register. The error you are seeing when trying to apply the HotFix seems to indicate that it can't do one of two things that it's trying to do:
1. Replace the swimapi.dll file with a newer version
2. Register the swimapi.dll file
If you can determine which step is not taking place, you can take some steps to try to get around it. So first, run the HotFix, get the error, then check the version of swimapi.dll. If it is a newer version, you can assume that the HotFix installation was able to replace the file and is erroring on registering the file. If it's not a new version, it's having trouble replacing the file. You could try re-naming the existing file to .old or just deleting it. You can also try rebooting the machine as sometimes it gets "stuck" and the system think the file is in use and won't let us replace it. So if you find that the file is actually a newer version and can't be registered, this could possibly be that the C++ redist. package was not applied or that there is a problem with it or that the (windows) login doesn't have sufficient permission to register the file. Try manually registering swimapi.dll. Can you do that?
I am getting the error for the same client again and the fix above is not working. Has anyone had this issue and not been able to solve it with the above fix?
Carolyn
Thanks for getting back to me. We figured it out. We were getting the following error:
"An unknown error (-2147024864 occured". The SL launching error was "SL has encountered and needs to close, etc". We did the following on each workstation:
1. Run vcredist_x86
2. Install hotfix SP1HF701_20984SY
Let's hope this post helps the next user that gets this error.
Chuck
Hi Chuck,
What is the error you received while installing the hot-fix? Also, what error do you get when launching SL?
