We have a lot of reporting are generated using Crystal Report Writer, since this product is not part of Dynamics GP, we would like to know what the upgrade steps are required, if we are going to upgrade GP 10 to GP 2010. We are very concern the Crystal Report no longer working fine, after upgrading to GP 2010.

Knowing that Crystal Report version 11 can be used with GP 10, so what if we are to update GP 10 to GP 2010, do we need to upgrade Crystal Report 12 or higher in order for it to work with GP 2010 ? if yes, do we need to purchase separate license for Crystal Report ?

Please advise and many thanks in advance.

You only have to make sure that your ODBC connectivity (or whatever format you setup) is using the lastest SQL Native client 11 if you're upgrading your DB server to SQL 2008, because a previous existing ODBC connexion may no longer work...

As Mark said, there is no correlation between Crystal Reports and GP versions.  As long as you can create a database connection, you can use any version of Crystal Reports to report against any version of Dynamics GP data.

However, Charles is right in that the version of Crystal may make a difference when you consider Windows versions and also support if you are actually running Crystal Reports on your desktops.  Crystal Reports XI (even R2) is no longer supported.  Crystal Reports 2008 is the current version, Crystal Reports 2011 will be out to the general public soon (it is currently in "ramp-up", like post-beta).

If you are running Crystal Reports without something special to make it work directly in GP then yes, you will need to be licensed for Crystal Reports for every user.  If your Crystal Reports users are primarily just running reports (as opposed to creating them) and if they are mostly Dynamics GP users, you might want to consider our product, GP Reports Viewer, to make the process much more user friendly and possibly less expensive than purchasing Crystal Reports licensing for each user.

The version of Crystal matters in the sense that, in my experience, Crystal XI is not supported on Windows 7.  There is a second release of Crystal XI that supposedly is supported but I'll be darned if I can find it.  I would think you'd want to upgrade to whatever the latest version of Crystal Reports is to have full compatibility with the latest version of Windows.

The version of GP doesn't matter with Crystal Reports since Crystal is reporting against the data in the underlying SQL database. As long as your version of Crystal can connect to the version of SQL being used you should be fine.

Hi There The version of Crystal does not matter. We are using crystal version 9 against GP2010 and it is working ok. Paul
