Editable Grid Troubleshooting

All,

I'm working on getting Editable grids working on my Dynamic 365 (on premise) installation.  I turned it on for a custom entity that is n:1 with opportunities.  All relationships for the custom entity are referential except for activities (parental as required).

The editable grid shows up in the associated view but every field is locked. As soon as you double click and open the form, all fields are editable so I don't think its a security or permission issue.

The fields are a mix between look ups, date and text.

Any ideas on next steps?

Thanks!

    Hi Yiannis,

Microsoft have just said that the fix will be in the next update, which they were expecting to be released within the next month or two.  Unfortunately nothing more.

    Thanks

    Craig

    Hi Craig,

Do you have any news from Microsoft about the problem with the version 8.2.1.176? I have the same problem.

    Thanks,

    Yiannis

    RE: Editable Grid Troubleshooting

I've now received an update from Microsoft that they have been able to replicate the issue in their environment and they've confirmed there is a bug.

My environment is 8.2.1.176 on-premise. If I deploy the same customisation into 8.2.0 it doesn't seem to be an issue.

    Hi Axie,

Thanks for the response.  My fields are definitely editable fields on the entity and not from a related one, so I think the problem is different.

I've imported the exact same entity and configuration in a solution into an identical test environment I have and the editable grid works in that.  But I've created 4 separate entities with editable grids in our live environment and none work, so I think my issue may be related to a deployment problem.  I will log it with Microsoft and see what we can find.

    Thanks

    Craig

    RE: Editable Grid Troubleshooting

    Hi Craig,

Yes, I figured this out  myself finally.  My issue is the view we used for the editable sub grid has some fields are related field from other entity. Those fields can not be able to edit because they are not direct relate to the self entity. Hope this will help you.

    Regards

    Axie

    Hi,

Here are simple steps that worked for me:

    1. Added grid view into my entity form. In properties of grid view I've added "Editable grid" and selected Web option for it.

    My grid is editable

    2. To display editable grid in associated view - I have to add "Editable Grid" on Entity Level for those entity which is listed in grid.

    How it looks:

Some fields are read only - so they are locked.

There also could be some scripts attached to  Editable Grid. Check Events tab of editable grid control.

I checked the metadata in SQL and all those conditions are met

    IsCustomizable IsChildEntity IsCustomEntity

    1                      0                         1

    RE: Editable Grid Troubleshooting

On the web client, an entity will support editable grid if all of the following conditions are true:

The entity is customizable (IsCustomizable = true)

The entity is either refreshed (IsAIRUpdated = true) or a custom entity (IsCustomEntity = true)

The entity is not a child entity (IsChildEntity = false)
