Hi All,

I have created an AX query and refer it to a List page form. It is working fine on DEV machine but when i open the form on QA server (AX client), it prompts below error:

  • Cannot select a record in On-hand inventory (InventSum). Closed: No. The SQL database has issued an error.
  • SQL error description: [Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0][SQL Server]Could not allocate space for object 'dbo.SORT temporary run storage:  143453757112320' in database 'tempdb' because the 'PRIMARY' filegroup is full. Create disk space by deleting unneeded files, dropping objects in the filegroup, adding additional files to the filegroup, or setting autogrowth on for existing files in the filegroup.

Is it possible that my form or query is not correct? If not then what can be the issue?

Please advise at your earliest. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Sukrut,

Thanks for your reply. Let me check this.

Your query is unrelated to the error, it is a disk issue for the SQL Server instance.

Restarting SQL would empty the currently occupied space within TempDB, but it obviously affects any databases running there. If your QA AX environment's DB is the only one, then stop the AOS, restart SQL, start AX, and see if it works.

Other than the above, you should be looking into the root cause of the issue with your SQL DBA to determine if your TempDB database is sized correctly or not, and what consumes the disks space. You should have a separate TempDB data file for each core (I am using 8x10GB), and about 10-20 GB enough space for TempDB log.

What if my query is taking more time to execute? Can this be the possible reason behind this issue?

As my other queries and forms are working fine on DEV as well as on QA servers.

Lack of resources, lack of index/statistics maintenance, or badly designed query (missing covering index, wrong join, not unique filtering criteria) on SQL Server are almost always the cause of performance problems.
