Calculating depreciation on a negative asset

I'm working in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009. We're trying to account for some grants that are related to certain assets. Lets say Asset 1 had a cost of $100,000 and we received a grant for Asset 1 for $100,000. The grant is to reduce the Asset's cost, so what we've done is under Asset 1, we have two value models, one for the actual asset which we calculate depreciation on. The other value model is for the grant which we entered with a negative acquisition value. We want to calculate "negative depreciation" on the grant value model. How would i go about doing this? We're currently doing all of this manually and tracking it in a spreadsheet, however we'd like to keep it all under one asset to streamline everything when we do dispose of the asset.

Thanks for posting this.  I am encountering a similar situation where we create negative assets for the non-refundable portion of deposits and then want to depreciate/amortize them over a SL method.   They have this functionality in JDE and were expecting to find it in AX2012.  How were you able to resolve this scenario?  I've heard from msft incident support that AX2012 does not compute depreciation proposal against a negative asset, and that the feature is 'working as designed', but I have heard many instances from customers where this is a common business requirement. Also, there are other ERP systems that perform this calculation.

We haven't been able to resolve this issue yet. From what I've gathered it's not possible to get AX to compute the negative depreciation for us. We've had to continue to calculate it all manually in excel and make manual journal entries. I'm aware also that other ERP systems do perform this procedure.

by the way, check out the reply from "Carlos1" ... I'm going to explore that since it makes the most sense.  Will keep you posted on what I find.  Sounds like a good idea:

Summary: "...Our solution:  we flipped the accounts on the posting profile instead of entering a negative asset for these asset groups..."
