"Microsoft has provided 90-days’ notice of new pricing and branding for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3, with the release of, Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Operations (On-Premises), effective July 1, 2017.

Customers have the option of purchasing from either the Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 pricelist or Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Operations (On-Premises) price list from June 1, 2017 to June 30, 2017.

Effective from July 1, 2017, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 will no longer be available for new customers. However, existing customers can continue to purchase additional licenses as required."

Is it true?

    Hi,

That's right and because the Russian features for D365f.O. will become available later on, that is after 01 July 2017, there is an 'N-1' option to still implement AX2012 systems for Russia. Please contact MS for more details on this.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

Its true but will be a major problem for many sales.

Not all legacy code can be converted, and tested  by that time -  especially as it has to be converted to extensions rather than over-layered code. (note all extension code features are available right now).  Every isv product, localised payroll, report, interface, all ESS workflows are potentially affected.

There are also global rollouts on Ax 2012 which may require separate new instances possibly with different legal companies.

So while the need to move forward is clear for many reasons, there needs to be some elasticity in how this is applied.

    Hi Suresh Kumar B,

The info I posted above was released by MS at the AXUG EMEA summit in Amsterdam last week. I thus do not have an official document of newletter. If you want to have that, please contact the MS directly as they might help you with getting something in writing.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

I confirm - those countries who would not have Dynamics 365 for Operations released will continue selling the older version under new licenses.

In addition: Only NEW licenses are retired. If I understood correctly, you can still extend existing AX2012 licenses.

That is correct but is a big mistake by Microsoft. (with the enforced move to extensions there is a huge amount of over-layered code that cannot  be upgraded as is nor be rewritten and tested in that time e.g. localised payrolls, or complex vertical solutions without which customers may not buy.

Note there will be price increases on 1 July for Ax 2012 license additions (and that will affect enhancement fees also for those licenses) so buy now! The likelihood after 1 July is no more price discounts for Ax 2012 in order to more attractively price DMO365.  (On premise DMO 365  will generally be , and a  lot more expensive than Ax 2012- tasks goes to Activity, Functional goes to Enterprise, ES goes to Team  , and Retail POS a lot more expensive so Ax 2012 will look a bargain if not increased to similar levels).

The "enforced move to extensions" is not new. Already started in AX2012 it was possible to do some extensions. Our solutions were designed to have minimal impact on standard Dynamics AX.

If you buy now to get some discount, make the calculation if this is really cheaper. You also have to pay the maintenance fee (enhancement plan).
