Phantom BOM's

We are looking to start implementing phantom BOM’s, but during our testing we found that the labor was not rolling up from the child parts up to the parent.  Anyone have any ideas on what might be wrong?

Thanks,

Jenn

If you're talking about standard cost roll-ups, the labor goes into cost the roll-up of the phantom. That whole cost then goes into the finished good as a material cost of that phantom.

If you're talking about data collection, it should just be collected on the MO of the finished good.

Thanks for the information, but I guess I should have been more clear in the post.

The problem of the labor not rolling up from the child to the parent is not happening when we close the phantom MO.

    Thanks,

    Jenn

Never heard of anyone closing or even creating a Phantom MO.  The idea of a phantom BOM is that the phantom item is normally never made but the BOM for the parent blows through the phantom item and includes the components of the phantom on the pick list for the top level parent.

Now on occassion, people do need to build an item that has a phantom BOM.  But I have never heard the work order called a phantom MO!  It is a real MO just like the rest.  The labor should be attached to the router to make the sub-assembly for those occassions where the subassembly is actually manufactured.  The labor ALSO needs to be on the router for the parent item as it is the parent MO that will be controlling the manufacturing process.

I hope you are smiling as you read this...sometimes my humor fails.  If this is not clear enough, post back with additional questions.

    Hi Richard,

Thanks for your note, I was smiling as I read it.

I will go back and see how the operations dept set up the parts and how they are opening MO's.
