Workflow email reminder when estimated close date is near.

I am trying to set up an automatic workflow that will remind users by sending an email when the estimated close date for an opportunity is 1 day away; however, I want to know how to reset the process in the event that the users change their estimated close date (which we anticipate to happen rather frequently). Because the process is automatic it is currently set to begin with the creation of an opportunity. I know I need to create a child workflow, but I am not sure how to make the child workflow only start when the estimated close date has been modified. Any advice on how to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated.

What you are doing is allready taking into account that the variable "close date" can change. It will dynamicly take the date into account and not execute until it is true.

So no need to create a child workflow.

I tried to change the date to test what you said, but it seems like the automatic process only starts when a new opportunity is created and consequently only works with the original date. Shoudl I use something else to trigger the automatic workflow?  Because right now it seems that the thing holding me up is that the trigger is the creation of a new opportunity.

    I hope this makes sense!

    Molly,

I would fire up the workflow on change of the Est. Closed Date instead of on Create...make the Est. Close Date required.

On your Email Sent, you need to add an if statement before sending the email...it goes like this:

    1. Oppty is created with Est. Close Date in 10 days.

    2. Workflow fires and waits for T-1 Day (8 Day) to resume.

    3. When it resumes it checks if the Est. Closed Date is still the same (and also if the Oppty is still Open).

    4. It send the email.

If the Es.t Close Date changed, there is another workflow that fired up and it's waiting for T-1 day to check. The first workflow that was triggered by the initial Est. Closed Date will End if the date has been changed.

    Does that make sense?
