Hi @Dave Dusek, I am getting the same issue. And don't understands the reason of this issue.
Not sure exactly what was going on last week but I've retried this morning and it has worked fine. Last week was one of those weeks, so I'm guessing that I wasn;t picking the correct report to import it into.
Thanks for all the replies.
Ian,
Open up the xml file that you generated with notepad. Look at the top of the xml. In the dictionary node, if you see a line like this:
<Main Path="C:\GP2010R2\">Dynamics.dic</Main>
Then the xml has been generated on the original, not modified report. If you see something like this:
<Main Path="C:\GP2010R2\">Dynamics.dic</Main>
<Report Path="C:\GP2010R2\Data\">REPORTS.DIC</Report>
Then that means that you generated the xml on a modified (in rw) report.
You will also want to check the xml name. It should be something like this:
XMLNAME="SOP Blank Picking Ticket Order Entered"
Knowing that, you know the report name and whether it's modified or original, now go into the Template Maintenance window and be sure to choose the report that matches the XMLNAME and either original/modified. Then it should work.
The versions also have to match and if this is an alternate report then that could also affect this, but you would want to start here.

Hi Leslie,
The other template I tried to change was one of the PO ones which have a default template shipped wiht GP.
The Picking Ticket doesn't have a default and it is this I am trying to create. The xml I produced is the exact same named report that I am trying to load it into.
The picking ticket is an unmodified one I printed as xml and used the Word Template Generator to convert into a docx.
Ian
Another question, are both .xml files being created with the same report? Meaning an original copy or a modified copy as far as Report Writer is concerned. They must match.
Ian,
Are you trying to create a second word template for the Picking Ticket? Your comment
"One other thing; if I modify a pre-existing template I can import this without seeing the error"
If you are, are you using a different .xml file for the second template?
Kind regards,
Leslie
No, the Word template wasn't open. I've just closed everything reopened GP and tried again and get the same error message.
Is the word document template open when you are trying o add the report to GP?
If so, close the word document and then try adding it.
After that, close all applications, re-open just GP and try adding it again.
Ian.
One other thing; if I modify a pre-existing template I can import this without seeing the error.
