Hi,

Wonder how best practice is, when invoicing e.g. SaaS subscription from BC.

My customer need to invoice their customers for software services every year, what would be the best way to setup the items, as the type Service or?

Hope someone have some knowledges since there is no information on Docs regarding invoicing software and licens cost.

Best Regards

Louise

Yes, using that type of item is a great use case for that type of billing scenario. There are some interesting resources on appsource for enhancing how the billing process plays out and values get split up. More to give you comfort that your current assumptions are correct check out this walk through guide - it is for a customisation idea but it gives you a flavour for how to possible handle these things: github.com/.../FunctionalSpecification.md

The most standard way would be using Jobs. Isn't only pitfall is the need to manually create the data for subsequent billing periods.

We bill these services monthly. We've setup Recurring Sales Lines for ours, we do have a list of customers. We create a sales invoice use the function Get Recurring Sales Lines and post.

Service Management also has a feature to setup recurring invoicing which is even better than recurring sales lines because there is a process to create recurring invoices.

I'm not asking for the billing process, but how to create the item.

I have an app for the billing part, so its only the best way for creating the items, or if it should be done in any other way that I'm looking for.

    Hi CA_Louise ,

In your case i do not think it matters much if you chose Item type service or none inventory. Unless you need to use them in assembly orders or production orders.

Personally i would go with none-inventory because that gives me the most flexibility for further use.

You can read more about the differences here:

    docs.microsoft.com/.../inventory-about-item-types
