Best practices for job/timesheet setup with team members and phone app

Hi

We have an idea that we can use the BC standard functionality to define projects in the job module and let the workers in the field report time on the projects via timesheets in the android app.

The functionality has many shortcomings and there is really room for improvements, but we have found work arounds for most issues.

I think this must be a quit common scenario, so does anyone have a complete description of how to set this up?

Currently I have specific problem that I would also like to ask you about.

As mentioned we want our workers in the field to enter time registrations with the app for android and this part seems to work. Not brilliant but ok.

The current problem is that we do not want some back office people to create work sheets. When the employees want to register time for the first day in a week, they must be able to create a timesheet themselves. This is also possible but the timesheet has this stupid thing that the timesheet is not considered as an "open" timesheet before it contains at least one line. This is also stupid in the PC web app, but there it is possible from the list of open time sheets to remove the filter "Open Exists = Yes" and then we can see also the time sheets without lins and start working on adding the lines.

I have created a new timesheet TS00083 with the phone app and when i open the "Open time sheets" report on a PC, this new timesheed is not visible ...

... but if I remove the "Open Exists" filter I can see this new timesheet in the PC web app:

...but in the android app I see no option to change or remove filters.

This is the Open Time Sheets program in App:

...and if I press the 3 dots in lower right corner, I get this menu - with no filter options:

So, the big question is - can I remove or change the report filters when I open the report in the phone App?

    Hello Thomas,

If you don't get further responses to this issue, you may want to raise a support request to Microsoft support via your CSP / Partner.

Ok, I found an other work around.

In the PC web app i played around with filters in the "Open Time sheets" report and the option to save filters as a view. I was not able to save a view without the automatic standard filter "Open Exists = Yes" , but I could change the filter to "open Exists = No".

    pastedimage1676559415414v1.png

When I saved this view  magic happens in the Android app. Now the menu in the Open Time sheets report suddenly have a new option "Views" and under this I can chose what ever view I have in the PC web app.

So with this option the users can crate a new time sheet with the Android app. At first it is not visible, but then the user can switch to the "Open Exists = No" view. Here they can open the time sheet and add a line. This will change status of the new time sheet to "Open Exists = Yes" and then the user can switch back to the default view.

This is a cumbersome work around, but at least it works.

    Hi TMNielsen

Great post and method. Thanks for sharing it. It was useful for me.

I have used below free app before as well. But like your OOTB method

    Thanks MahGah

I usually prefer to go with standard apps, but "free" is a magic word :-) , so I will take a look at this option from Abakion.

How about trying to start tracking https://www.kickidler.com/ employees' computers instead of their smartphones? What do you think, is it worth a try? I, too, all did not get along immediately, because lately they have seriously deteriorated, all remote workers have become much worse than in the office, I think what to do in order to correct this situation somehow
