What is Posting type?

Hello Experts,

Currently I'm setting up journal name and there is field: Posting layer.

The Docs says:

Current - Default layer that is used.
Operations – Used for entry of transactions.
Tax – Where you record transactions that impact tax reporting.

However it's really heard to understand without any example. It would be great if you can explain what is a posting type and what does it use for? kind of Journal classify?

Can you share a link to the docs article?

This reference seems to be wrong.

What you list are posting layers, not posting types.

The posting types classify a transaction, which helps for searching and structuring transactions.

Ah sorry I made a mistake. I mean Posting layer.

Regarding this article and few discussion in community - Posting layer. It's really vague

Could you please help me explain and provide an example?

Hi Ross Ross,

Here is an example that illustrates how you can use posting layers to incorporate different accounting regulations for fixed assets.

Posting layers are, however not limited to fixed asset but can be used in other finance areas as well.
