Sales Customisation - is there a product that does this?

Posted on by 9,142

Hi

One of my clients is interested in a solution that would do the following.  I am interested in whether there is something available out there that does it already, rather than customisation from scratch.

They operate retail stores for furniture.  Someone might make a purchase in one city, but the delivery is to happen from another city.  The sale and cost of sale needs to be for the store that made the sale, but the inventory movement needs to be from the delivery city.

Site ID on a Sales Order line drives the GL posting for the business unit.  Essentially we want:

Sales & Cost of Sales driven by the Sales Territory

Inventory driven by Site ID

Or the ability to have two site ID's - Selling Site & Delivery Site - Selling site to drive Sales and Cost of Sales, Delivery Site to drive Inventory.

Any one know of solutions?

Cheers

Heather

I would recommend you look at KTL advanced distribution POP/SOP product.

Thanks for the suggestions.  That gives us a starting point for looking at some options.  Victoria, I particularly like your suggestion - this could have uses in a few different scenarios.

    Much appreciated.

I would suggest looking into eOne's Flexicoder.  this tool allows you to define how you want posting accounts to be pulled by transaction, and even document type.

    Hi Heather,

I have done something very similar for a customer with our reporting product, GP Reports Viewer. Briefly:

    1. Prior to posting user runs what to them is just a report - they can run this off any window in GP that has the batch ID selected, like the Sales Batch Entry window or the Sales Transaction Entry window. There is also a separate window where all reports are that they can go to and simply select the Batch ID.
    2. The report runs a SQL stored procedure that changes the accounts as needed based on some predefined logic. In their case it was the DOC ID of the invoice compared to the Site ID on the line items. In your case maybe the selling site would be the Default Site ID on the invoice (at the top of the Sales Transaction Entry window) and the delivery site would be the line item Site ID? And the logic in the stored procedure would determine what accounts get changed and how.
    3. After the stored procedure makes the account changes, the report prints a list of what invoices are in the batch and what the accounts are now, so the user can visually check them all quickly (this can be an Excel, Crystal or SSRS report).

This worked great for our customer, the only issue was if someone forgot to run the report prior to posting the batch. The nice thing about this approach is that there is no "customization", just a report.

    Couple thoughts.

Depending on how you have defined your accounts you should be able to use site segment substitution out of the box to manage the inventory accounts.  Assuming 1300-000 as inventory, you could assign site values to segment 2 such that you would store 1300-000 on the item card but GP would transform this to different account 1300-010, 1300-020 etc... on posting depending on how you defined the site / segment relationship.

On the revenue side maybe 12 years ago or so we looked at a third party (who as far as I could tell was out of business) they had an add-on you could choose what segment came from the customer card and which came from the item card such that you could get product line from item and territory from customer and string together a revenue account which gave both.  We ended up writing our own dex product as it was pretty simple requirements.  Grepping Google I see a product from InterDyn that has almost the same setup window we created.  Logic here from scratch was pretty simple to write, there is probably more than one product in the space to help you here.
