Create custom API to retrieve only some columns from a table

Hi Everyone
We are using Power BI for reporting and want to limit the source data by using custom APIs. Is there anyway to limit the columns when creating a custom API? Is there a way to achieve this without creating a plugin? Something like a front end tool that you can select columns from a table?
