CRM Field lookup preview sorting

Hi All,

I want to know is there any way to sort the field lookup quick preview in Dynamics 365, either using a Jscript or any out of the box steps to follow to achieve this.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

You can do this using Javascript while creation/save of lookup record .

Hi Vinod,

Unfortunately this is not supported by MS dynamics , this is OOB behavior so you can not change this behavior.

As an alternate you can try to concatenate lookup name field value with prefix the number field so that it can be sort with number . like below , I am not sure , you can try.

10 - Name of the record

20 - Name of the record

30 - Name of the record

Hi Goutam,

The lookup quick previews on any entity will be sorted in alpha-numeric manner which is a default feature, I want to add a numbered field to that lookup's entity and have it sorted but the quick preview is not picking that up, only look up view is being sorted.

These 10 records preview that we get while we click on look-up that needs to be sorted I wanted to know if there's any way to do that

Apart from adding a number as a suffix to every record's name field.

Hello Vinod,

What kind of sorting you need when preview ,could you please specify little bit details ?

You can add filter condition to retrieve certain data based on some condition as per your requirement , this is supported method which Rawish already shared.

However by default it should be sort based on characters which you type in the field .

Hi Vinod,

Even if you have applied sorting on the quick lookup view of the this entity - the sorting doesnt applies on this first 10 records of the lookup.

so when you click on the more records it opens the view - there you will see the correct sorting. Its a limitation.

you an use some scripting logic , but i doubt is would be a supported method :
