Hi guys
I'm aware that there have been some changes made to the licensing model for D365 but I have a fairly specific question that hopefully someone will know. We have a client who is relatively small (6 users) and they've been using D365 Customer Engagement quite happily for a few years now. They use the Portal as well and have a number of external users who access this (by logging in) and updating some information.
The licenses have expired on 31 October 2019 and I was under the impression that they would still be able to purchase the CE licenses for a further 12 months as they are "in transition" essentially. Come October 2020 they'd need to move to a new license. However, they've been told by the reseller who looks after them (it's not ourselves as they are tied to a university) that the licenses are no longer available and that they need to buy the new license types now. Is that correct? Do they need to move now and I've picked up this transition period incorrect? Was it only available for those that would be changing prior to the new pricing coming into effect on 1 October 2019?
On top of this, they've been told they now need a minimum of 20 users for Sales. This puts the price up by a factor of almost 4 even when moving to the "lower cost" Sales App only.
All seems a little weird to me that they'd be punished for having a smaller user base.
To compound the issue, they use the Portal (as I mention) and we'd told the user, who is in discussions with the reseller, to let the reseller know they "use the Portal and you'll need to know how the new pricing model for this will work going forward"...and they've quoted them for a D365CE Additional Portal (which isn't what they asked for nor what I asked them to tell them). And since they can't provide D365DE license costs, how can they quote them for a D365CE Additional Portal!?
All seems a bit weird to me as I assumed with the new licensing model we were not changing the minimum requirements for user licenses so this has come as a bit of a shock to them (and to me).
I know when there are changes there are usually bumps in the road but this just seems a little weird to me. Anyone out there got any advice on who to speak to about this?
Cheers
Steven
