Upgrade From 9.0 to 10.0

I'm finally getting the hang of doing this upgrade thing....I know I've done enough vms of them.  But I am haveing a nagging problem going from 9.0 SP4 to 10.0 SP5.  When I launch the Dynamics Utilities, it asks for the Security file from the previous version.  I copied the Dynamics.set over to the new server, but when I browse to it, it comes back and says that it is the wrong file and needs the one for 9.0.388.

I'm a bit confused, since that version is that has the security info.

Thanks.

Jeff

you mentioned that you copied the dynamics.set. Do you also have the original dictionaries?

I think Leslie is on to something here. There is nothing in the DYNAMICS.SET file that has the version number, I think what is happening is the DYNAMICS.SET file is then pointing to a DYNAMICS.DIC file that is the wrong version.

    Hi Jeff,

When you are trying to convert security you need the entire GP 9 code folder not just the Dynamics.set file. This information is in the upgrade manual along with the steps you will need to follow.

If I'm upgrading from another server, how do I get that entire GP 9 folder?  I'm a little unclear on that.  The Upgrade documentation isn't real clear on that either.

    Thanks.

    Hi Jeff,

In that case you would need to copy the entire GP 9 code folder to the new server and make sure it is in the exact same path as it was on the old server.

It wouldn't be the same path.  When I install 10.0, it puts it in the same path.  The only version it changes on me without manipulating it, is 2010.

Then you need to copy the whole code folder and update the paths in the Dynamics.set file to be the location you put the folder on the new server.

That it too easy.  I should have thought to try that.  I feel dumb now.  Can't you tell I do IT for a living?

Ha ha! No worries Jeff sometimes it takes someone else's eyes. Trust me it happens to everyone!

Agreed.  I can't tell you how many times I've had to get up and walk away from this.  But....I am determined to get to 2010 or 2013 by year end.
