Dynamics 365 Sales Trial and Licencing Question

Dear Community,

I have a question regarding Dynamics 365 and licences as I am getting a little bit confused right now:

I started a Dynamics 365 Sales trial and I have Dynamics 365 Sales Premium Viral Trial assigned to me. I then added a user to my trial through Power Platform admin centre and assigned them the same security roles as I have, including the system admin role. However, I did not assign this user the Dynamics 365 Sales trial licence just to see what would happen if they try to access any of the apps. To my surprise, I seem to be able to access everything with my user account without the Dynamics licence in the same way my user with the licence can.

Perhaps I am not fully understanding how licencing work at the moment, but I thought any access would be denied if you do not have an appropriate licence attached to your account. However, perhaps users can access e.g. Dynamics Sales if they are added into the environment and given a role, but their actions will be severely restricted until they have the Dynamics 365 licence assigned. Would that be correct?

Many thanks,

Alex

RE: Dynamics 365 Sales Trial and Licencing Question

    Hi Alex,

Please refer to the following documentation to know the differences between Trial (standard) and Trial (subscription-based) environments.

About trial environments: standard and subscription-based - Power Platform | Microsoft Docs

And the following section is about how to add users to a trial.

How do I add more users to a trial?

RE: Dynamics 365 Sales Trial and Licencing Question

    Hey!

Besides the comment previously added about differentiating Trial (subscription) vs Trial (standard), it's also important to understand the conditions that grants access to an environment

    1) user must exist in the Active Directory and be enabled.

    2) User must have a valid license. This is important because it doesn't necessarily mean a "dynamics 365 Sales trial" license:  it might be a PowerApps license.  Or the user might be a Global Administrator on Azure (which also grants permissions over the environment).  If you're unsure the license the user has, you should check (either on Azure or O365) the licenses assigned to the user

    3) If there's a security group asssigned to the environment, user must be part of the security group (except Global Administrators)

    4) User must have a Security role.
