i am in the process of migrating from exchange 2003 to 2010 and in the process I thought I would update sql alerts to use the new email server. I managed to break business alerts. When I try to send a test message from business alerts I get this error: xp_sendmail: failed with mail error 0x80004005. Please advise.

Hi Jennifer yes you should be able to follow that KB to setup DB mail. If you go through those steps and you still are unable to send the test email in SQL I would recommend you contact SQL Support as they will be able to help you further.
can i configure database mail using this kb article? Step 4 indicates it's for a 64-bit system and mine is only 32. will it still work? mbs2.microsoft.com/.../KBDisplay.aspx
that sounds my issue but I rebooted the server last night so that should have cleared it up and it didn't help.
