Microsoft Dynamics GP (Archived)

You must be viewing by functional or originating currency to print a document

We are using MS Dynamics GP v. 10 - 36 Users - we don't have multi-currency - only one user is experiencing being unable to print a historical SOP document so therefore this isn't a system issue.  Querying this error message on Customer Source indicates to update table MC40500 at the server.  But it sounds like a workstation problem.  I am going to check the workstations currency settings, the Dynamics currency settings and confirm that US dollar is the default for Dynamics at the workstation (I was thinking the the currency settings would be system generated but perhaps not?).  If there is something else I should look for advice would be greatly appreciated.

In addition this user is set up in a security class - other users in this class experience no problems or error messages (You must be viewing by functional or originating currency to print a document)

We've just had this same problem and our company does not have multi-currency set up. It turns out the user was viewing in Reporting Currency after hitting Ctrl+r. The fix was to click Ctrl+u to put them back into Functional Currency view. The other shortcut is Ctrl+o to put them in Originating Currency view but this also has issues when viewing transactions if not set up for multi-currency. Therefore, I assume default view for Non-MultiCurrency companies is Functional Currency (Ctrl+u)

I had this exact issue. The issue was resolved by comparing the problem user with another user in the MC40500 table.  The VIEWTYPE fields had 5 for the user who received the error message and 3 for all other users. I simply updated the VIEWTYPE field to 3 and the problem was resolved! Case closed.

    Hi

We had pretty much same issue.

Solution was... when viewing going into Sales > (Enquiry) Transactions by Debtor, and before entering any data, use menu View > Currency, and set that at Functional.

Now user no longer gets the error message.

Hi Brigitte, no not the same process. Did you run the MC40500 query as per the techknowledge?

You can try a checklinks on the MC tables. File >> Maintenance >> Check links. Choose 'System' as the series and insert Multicurrency Access and Multicurrency System Set up into the Selected Tables box. Then click OK.

You should really back up your DYNAMICS and Company databases first.

A check links on the Sales Transaction History tables might also help.

Same as above...Series = Sales, Tables = 'Sales History'...and possibly 'Receivables Open Transaction Files' and 'Recivables Transaction History Files'.

    Hi Richard,

I'll try this.  Can you tell me where this option is?  I looked under tools but didn't see this option.  Would this be the  info I found on Customer Source to update table MC40500 which would be run at the server?  Thanks for the help.

    Brigitte,

Normally, running a reconcile on Multicurrency tables fixes these issues.  All of the MC fields should be filled in with the same currency ID even if you don't have MC Licensed.

    Hi Brigitte,

For sure, if I had access to your system I could take a look around and test the user ID and see what the reason is. There is always a logical explanation. However its probably just one of those things. Easier to resolve than actually find out why it was a problem in the first place. At least its working now. At a guess, you will probably find (I know you were never registered for MC) that  at some stage MC tables / entries were created. Even just entering MC reg keys can create some MC data. I wouldn't be too worried about it anyway.

    Best regards,

    Hi Ian,

We aren't registered for multi-currency therefore no currency button is available.  Not having multi-currency is what perplexed me with the error message.  Is there anyway to find out what happened to this user id?  Being Dynamics I'm sure that's a shot in the dark but I thought I would ask in case it ever occurs again with someone else.

Thanks for your input on this dialogue.

    Hi Brigitte,

No, that is the Currency ID field where you could select a currency for this transaction, if you were using multicurrency.

The currency button is up on the top right hand corner of the window...just to the left of the Printer Icon. You might not have this button enabled if you are not registered for multicurrency - not sure, as all our customer sites are multicurrency - so I have no non-multicurrency keys to test with!

If the issue is resolved then thats good.

Were you ever registered for multicurrency...or perhaps you have a partner that might have inadvertently installed MC at some stage? I can recreate your issue...but only because I am registered for MC.

    Best regards,

Re: Re: You must be viewing by functional or originating currency to print a document

Yes, it was all documents from this workstation but only for this user id.  Logged in as myself and as "sa" and was able to print without errors.  My solution was to create a new login for this user and it worked.  The user is now able to print documents from the workstation.  It would be nice to find out what happened to the original user id that created the printing issue for historical SOP documents.   I can't access the workstation at the moment.  Is there something in particular I should look for in the dex.ini file?

Also, from my workstation to see the results I attempted to click on the currency button as you suggested but the field is grayed out.  This would be the field labeled Currency ID, correct?  And if available it would function the same as clicking the document number or document date button for more information?

    Thanks for your response.
