Hi Arpan,

The use of VSTS is mandatory for customer environments. Visual Studio online contains the source control history. VSTS is used to create builds for customer environments and ISV solutions. It can also be used for test automation. docs.microsoft.com/.../continuous-build-test-automation

Note that VSTS has several components. One is version control, as already mentioned, but there is more. Automated builds are handled by VSTS too, you can use VSTS for project management (linking code to requirements and tasks is extremely useful) and so on...
