List of attributes and their data fields for Templates

Hello

I am struggling with a Word template for quotes.

Although I have added the required attributes via the XML mapping in Word, some of these fields are not populated when using this template.

This is either because I have used the incorrect attribute or there is no data in the CRM field for the attribute to fetch.

My questions are:

1. Is there a comprehensive list of attributes and their associated CRM fields somewhere? e.g. in a customer account I definitely have a Shipping Address entered but the attributes shipto_line1 ofr example do not populate.

2. Is there a trick to using composite attributes such as billto_composite in Word?

3. Is there an easy way to see all the attributes from a quote which contain data?

Thanks in advance

    Hi,

    1. Is there a comprehensive list of attributes and their associated CRM fields somewhere? e.g. in a customer account I definitely have a Shipping Address entered but the attributes shipto_line1 ofr example do not populate.

-- You need to check this in CRM

    2. Is there a trick to using composite attributes such as billto_composite in Word?

-- No you need to use normal field, if composite field contain data, individual fields will also have data

    3. Is there an easy way to see all the attributes from a quote which contain data?

-- Best option to validate in Advanced find to validate that entity specific record and check fields

Download XrmToolBox and use its Metadata Document Generator to create a data dictionary for selected entities. (there isn't really any form Label to Display Name as far as I'm aware, usually would just look at the form attribute properties in the form editor).

If you are looking at something like quote, make sure that you are dealing with the correct entity e.g an number of fields will be called the same on the Quote, Contact and Account entities.

    hi,

    Thank you for your query.

Let me answer you questions, in the order you wrote:

    • When you are creating a template (or download it), you are given an option to select entities you need the data from. If you are storing shipping address in the Quote itself, you need to choose quote shipping address fields from the XML Mapping, if you need to fetch the address from Customer, you need to add the address fields from the customer (account or contact), for example when we download the template (to design), we choose Quote as main entity, Quote Lines as child entity, and Account as parent entity (please note choose quote_customer_accounts relationship, do not choose msydn_account_quote_Account):

Then in the XML Mapping, add the address fields from the correct entity (where you store data):

For this example I have added Composite Addresses from quote, quote_customer_accounts nodes, then added shipto_line1 and shipto_city from quote_details node (quote details do not have composite address field).

For your understanding, here is the result:

You can also test your mapping, by adding some pointers in the various address fields (quote, quote details, account).

    • There is no trick to use composite address fields, just right click and add it as Plain or Rich Text.
    • You can see all the fields in the Solution Explorer. Go to:
      • Advanced Settings -> Customizations -> Customize this System.
      • Expand Entities -> Quotes -> Fields.
      • Explore the fields, please note, you will see the fields by Name (physical name) in the XML Mapping:

Similarly, you can explore Quote Lines and Account entities as well.

You can also use Advanced Find and add all address fields to understand your data.

Thank you very much for this comprehensive and accurate answer. IS there any way in a Word Template to see what a field is mapped to? i.e. If there is a field in the template called address1_city is there any way to tell if this is pointing at the quote_customer_accounts or the quote_customer_contacts?

    Hi partner,

Unfortunately, we cannot identify which entity the content control comes from.

So, I would recommend you write the title of fields before inserting the Plain Text of the fields.

THIS! It is absolutely exhausting trying to find out which field actually did the trick and was indeed the correctly mapped field. For the life of me, I cannot understand why there is no option to check the mapped entity field.
