"A previous version of Microsoft GP is detected.To proceed you need to upgrade your database. Other users are currently using Microsoft GP. You cannot update tables...."

I am getting an error message when trying to install the year end update.

When opening GP Utilities I am getting the attached message "A previous version of Microsoft GP is detected.To proceed you need to upgrade your database.  Other users are currently using Microsoft GP. You cannot update tables...."

 

I have verified that there are no other users in GP. Please let me know what i can do to solve this problem.

I am working remotely today so I'm not reachable on my work phone number.

    SELECT * FROM DYNAMICS..ACTIVITY will confirm who GP thinks is in GP. That table must be emptied before the upgrade process will continue. DELETE DYNAMICS..ACTIVITY will empty this table. Then you will first perform the upgrade on your server and then all the workstations. Remember to load the latest tax tables after you have created your year-end wage file.

    Richard,

    Slightly funny story from my last upgrade (2013 R2-2015 R2). During my test upgrade the backup I restored still had a user "logged in". The upgrade succeeded and everything was fine up until I needed to add new reg keys. I ended up having to delete dynamics..activity so I could get the one concurrent license back in order to login, enter the keys and get our 23 seats back.

    Yes, I have run into that as well. Sometimes you get rushed and forget to empty the activity table.
