I have a puzzle. I am running GP 9.0 on SQL Server 2005. When I run a Cross Reference report for GL number 100000 the report shows that that number is taken. When I run a query on SQL Server 2005 against GL 20000 in the appropriate company database the number does not show up in jrnentry. How is this possible? Any help is appreciated.

There will not be an issue if GL30000 has the same number, since the primary key in the GL30000 table is the Fiscal Year and Journal Entry Number. Which is why during the year end process, the system asks you to enter the next years starting journal entry number.
Only the GL Work and Open tables need to be checked if there is a duplicate journal entry number.
Dave - Have you run check links on all financial transactions - work and open? Please ensure that you run this. Could be a stranded record in some table, which causes this issue.

Check the GL30000 table as well. This will contain all the entries from closed years.
