GP2010 does not work with Shoretel Communicator

Is anyone running Dynamics GP 2010 v11.00.1935 with telephone software from ShoreTel called Communicator v12.2 build 17.41.7005.0?  We switched our phone system to ShoreTel this past weekend 05/05/2012.  We are planning to convert from GP10  v10.00.1835 to GP2010 v11.00.1935 this weekend 05/12/2012.  After installing the ShoreTel software the test computers stopped running GP2010.  The old Great Plains is not affected.  Trying to run the new GP2010 with the ShoreTel software generates an error message: "Microsoft.Dynamics.GP.Rtc.dll: The method or operation is not implemented."  Using Add/Remove software to remove the ShoreTel Communicator software from the client computer makes the error go away and the test computers can run GP 2010 just fine.

The client computers are running Windows XP.  Our IT staff is still looking into it.  I was hoping someone else out there is running the same configuration of phone system and Great Plains.

Thanks,

Keith McConnell

RE: GP2010 does not work with Shoretel Communicator

Thanks so much for this post!  Although 2 years later, we had the same thing happen to us today with our first Communicator install.  We are going to try your fix...hopefully no interaction with our other GP products.

  • Re: GP2010 does not work with Shoretel Communicator

Chris those files are there for the communicator feature in GP. If the files are deleted then you are not going to cause any new issues except the feature will not work which I assume you are not using anyways. We recommend this in techincal support cases to customers that are running into this issue. If you would like another workaround I would encourage you to open a support incident and have another engineer assist with troubleshooting.

Let me clarify.  Its not that its not  "good" workaround, however, I assume the file exists for some purpose, not simply to look good.  I don't want to fix one issue just to create another down the road.

As I mentioned this has been wrote up as a bug and is currently being looked at. The only workaround is to delete the DLL files. I am confused as to why deleting this files is not a good workaround?

    Chris,

We are now on our third day live of running GP2010 and Shortel successfully.  We did what I listed above and we are working fine.  On each client computer running GP2010 we created a new folder in the addins folder called "donotuse".  We moved three files from the addin folder to the donotuse folder.   I moved Microsoft.Dynamics.GP.Rtc.dll and CommunicatorPrivate.dll and CommunicatorAPI.dll out of the AddIns folder and into the donotuse folder.   GP2010 can not find these files so we no longer have a conflict.

    Hello,

Anyone word on fix that doesn't involve deleting the DLL file?  We are about to install the latest version of Shoretel Communicator along side of our installations of GP ver 11.0.  We've tested and run into the same issue.  Deleting the DLL does resolve the error, but an alternate solution would be preferable.

    Hi Guys,

You cant rename the files because GP will still try to launch the files in the folder. You must delete them or move them out of the folder. This DLL file is for Office Communicator. We have a bug wrote up on this but the workaround for now is to remove or delete the files.

FYI - when I had this problem - Shoretel had told me that this was a known issue and that Shoretel had communicated to Microsoft. I think Microsoft may have a patch if moving files and re-naming doesn't work. I never pursued it because re-naming solved my problem with no functional effect.

    Good Luck.............

Thank you Bron.  I tried renaming the file to xxMicrosoft.Dynamics.GP.Rtc.dll_old and that did not work.  GP still found the renamed file and generated the original error message.  My solution was to create a folder called "donotuse" in d:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\GP2010\Addins and move three files into the new folder.  I moved Microsoft.Dynamics.GP.Rtc.dll and CommunicatorPrivate.dll and CommunicatorAPI.dll out of the AddIns folder and into the donotuse folder.  Now GP can not find these files.  It seems to be working on my two test clients.  I will keep testing.  Whatever this Communicator is we do not want it.

Re: GP2010 does not work with Shoretel Communicator

Keith - I had an exact same issue with a client.

Our solution was to rename the Microsoft.Dynamics.GP.Rtc.dll file. In our environment it didn't have any functional use - I'm not certain what 's the purpose - could be workflow, sharepoint, etc....my client had a basic environment with no workflow, reporting services, sharepoint or templates..............your environment might be different.........

Good Luck let us know how it goes...........
