I am trying to find a way through which I can alter the system excel template for Pipeline management  as I need just a few fields & remove the extra ones.

What I have tried:
- Downloaded the template from document templates.
- Updated fields and upload it again but failed as - The file is invalid. The hidden worksheet data is corrupted.
- Then downloaded again and upload it again to test if it was on my end or not but again - The file is invalid. The hidden worksheet data is corrupted.
- Why I am using the same template is bcuz it has charts, pivots etc in it which I want as it is.
- I have tried to download fresh blank template & copy paste the date from pipeline template but then the charts & pivots are not correct even then are not visible ..

do guide me as I am a beginner 😕 ...

    Step 1: Identify the Template
Go to Settings → Templates → Document Templates
You'll see a list of Word or Excel templates available in the system.
Find the template related to the Sales Pipeline (usually related to the Opportunity entity).
    Step 2: Download the Template
Select the template you want to alter.
    Click on Download Template.
Open the file in Word or Excel.
You'll see content controls or fields (placeholders) like <<opportunityname>> or <<estimatedrevenue>>.
    Step 3: Modify the Template
    Make your changes in Word/Excel:
    Add logos, formatting, colors
    Rearrange sections
    Add or remove CRM fields
Important: Use the Developer tab in Word to manage content controls.
If it's not visible, enable it via Word Options → Customize Ribbon → Check Developer.
You can also insert new fields by using:
Insert → Quick Parts → Field
Or manually adding fields from the XML mapping pane (linked to the CRM schema)
Step 4: Upload the Modified Template
Go back to Settings → Templates → Document Templates
    Click on Upload Template
    Choose Word or Excel
    Select the updated file
Choose the entity (e.g., Opportunity) it's related to

    Hi,

Modifying the system Excel template for Pipeline Management in Dynamics 365 can be tricky due to the hidden metadata and embedded pivot/chart configurations. Here's how you can approach it:

    1. Preserve Hidden Metadata:

      • Avoid deleting or modifying hidden sheets or named ranges. These are essential for Dynamics to recognize the template structure.
      • Use "Unhide" in Excel to inspect hidden sheets, but do not alter them unless you're sure of the impact.
    2. Edit Only Visible Fields:

      • Make changes only to the visible data fields (e.g., remove columns you don’t need by hiding them instead of deleting).
      • This keeps the underlying structure intact while customizing the view.
    3. Use Excel Add-in:

      • If available, use the Excel Add-in for Dynamics 365 to export/import data while preserving formatting and structure.
    4. Rebuild Charts Carefully:

      • If you must rebuild charts, ensure they reference the correct named ranges or tables.
      • Alternatively, use the original template and hide unwanted fields rather than removing them.
    5. Test Uploads:

      • After editing, save the file in the same format and test the upload in a sandbox environment first.

Let me know if you'd like help reviewing your template or rebuilding the charts!

    Best regards,
    Daniele

    Hi,
I have seen your suggestion but the issue is when i try to upload the template after updating fields it says "File Invalid / Data Corrupted" .
It might be due to my lack of knowledge or mistake made by me but just to make sure that the issue is on my end, I downloaded fresh pipeline template from list and re-uploaded it AS IT IS without even opening it but still got the same error.

    Download the Original Template:

Download the official Pipeline Management Excel template directly from Dynamics 365 → Document Templates.

Use Excel's "Unhide" Feature to Access Hidden Sheets

Open the downloaded template in Excel.
Go to Home > Format > Hide & Unhide > Unhide Sheet.
You’ll see sheets with names like PivotCache, DataModel, or other hidden sheets.
DO NOT DELETE or MODIFY these hidden sheets unless you know exactly what you’re doing — these store the pivot cache and chart data connections.

Filter the Main Data Table (Don’t Delete Columns)

Instead of deleting columns (which breaks references), hide the columns you don’t want visible:

Select the columns with fields you don’t want.

    Right-click → Hide.

Alternatively, you can clear the data in those columns if you want but keep the structure intact.

Refresh the Pivot Tables and Charts

After hiding columns, go to each pivot table → PivotTable Analyze tab → Refresh.

The charts should update accordingly to show data only from visible columns.

If pivot tables/charts don’t behave correctly:

Right-click pivot table → PivotTable Options → Check data source range to ensure it still covers your filtered data.

    Save the Template Correctly

Save the Excel file as an Excel Macro-Enabled Workbook (.xlsm) or Excel Workbook (.xlsx) depending on original file type.
Avoid "Save As" to other file formats (like CSV) which can corrupt hidden data.
    Close Excel completely after saving.

    Upload Back to Dynamics 365

Go to Dynamics 365 → Settings → Templates → Document Templates.

    Upload the modified Excel file.
