Help with GP9 Integration - quick question

Posted on by 45

I've been tasked with building an integration between a budgeting system (which I know very well) and Great Plains 9 (which I don't know about at all.)

For the GP side I need to write a SQL query that will give me all transactions "tagged" in MDA with particular capital project numbers. However I'm having a difficult time finding any information about the database schema.

What's the best way to get a reference of Tables and et cetera, suitable to assist with building a SQL query, for a particular GP module, or the whole system? I'm sure there must be something out there, but I can't find anything for the life of me. Unfortunately my customer in this case has very little knowledge of the GP database in general, or MDA in particular.

Thanks for any help you can provide, GP Forum!

I've sent you an email, that would be really helpful.  Thanks for the information!

The MDA tables are in fact DTAxxxxx as Victoria indicated.  I have a GP9 Table Reference spreadsheet that lists all tables with descriptions, tabbed by series.  If you'd like a copy, shoot me an email and I'll send it to you.  I got this from Mark Polino a few years back but I couldn't find the link on his blog to reference.

I have not done too much reporting on MDA, but I believe all MDA transactions should be in the DTA10200 table.  You will need to link to other GL tables for additional transaction detail, account numbers, etc.  This page may help get you started with some additional tables: http://victoriayudin.com/gp-reports/gl-tables/.  You might also find this view for all posted GL transactions helpful: http://victoriayudin.com/2009/08/11/sql-view-for-all-posted-gl-transactions-in-dynamics-gp/.

In the application, look under Tools->Resource Descriptions on any window.

I would suggest your client upgrade to at least Version 10 before venturing on a custom development.  Version 2010 (used to be called 11) will be out in a few weeks and your client will then be 2 revs back.

Our book on Information Flow and Posting discusses the movement of transaction data through the system but does not include MDA unfortunately.
