Using PTE Time Sheets

Greetings everyone, I was wondering if you can tell me if the PTE Time an Expense options work for Canadian Payroll?  I will be the first to suggest that I recall the answer is NO - but I need confirmation.

Here is the situation

We have a prospect that wants to move from ADP to GP Payroll for a variety of reasons but needs to have some way of collecting Time Sheets.

All employees are Salaried so the hours do not need to move to Payroll but we would like to be able to use them for tracking into Grants Management.

All employees work on various Grant Funded projects and it would be nice to see the time / dollars move to that area of the system.

Can anyone suggest an answer?

Thanks.

    RE: Using PTE Time Sheets

    Hey everyone,

Just to clarify, Timecards in HR/Payroll is for US Payroll, PTE Time and Expense also integrates with Canadian Payroll.  Yes, it does work with Project Accounting.  But you do not need to set up full blown Project to use it.  You can set it up to use <None> for a project.  Then you can set up categories for time entry.  The time entry can be set up in a workflow for manager approval, and when that is approved and posted it flows straight through to the quick transaction entry window in Canadian Payroll.

Likely this is still clear as mud, but in answer to your first question, YES, this does work!

Now that being said, I have set this up for GP2016...worked beautiful!  But upgrading to GP2018, seems to have broken the ability to use the <None> project.  Well didn't break it, but it can't be approved.  Microsoft is looking into it.  Hopefully it will be fixed sooner than later!  However, if you are still wanting to set this up in GP2018, then you will need to create one basic project and make sure the accounts in the budget window are set up correctly (since, I think,  that is what is breaking the approval process).

    Hi Bill,

You specifically asked for PTE Time and Expense in your initial post, so I was merely addressing that.   In Dynamics GP, you can enter time using Timesheets in Project, or Timecards in HR/Payroll using Employee Self Service, and workflows are available for both.   I am including Terry's blog on HRM Timecard entry.  She has documentation and a video at the end.

Grant Management reads AA codes that are linked to the GL accounts used.  So I still don't see how this would be able to read the hours on your timecard submitted.

Perhaps anyone else in the community could offer ideas to you as well.

Just to be perfectly clear - to get any form of Timesheet entry that can be attached to workflow for approval purposes - I have to have Project Accounting?  that is a 12,000 hit for a pretty simple solution.  Not knocking - just trying to understand.

I know it is called Project Time and Expense - but organizations such as this non-profit - do not need project accounting but they do need to track and enter payroll.

    Thanks for your assistance.

    Hi Bill,

PTE Time and Expense does integrate to regular Project Timesheets.  You can choose to have that integrate to a Payroll batch or Canadian Payroll batch if you want.

However, Grant Management reads AA dimension codes linked to GL accounts, so it's not going to read the hours on a Timesheet.  You would probably be better off setting up an SSRS report to read the hours on the timesheets in Project.

Perhaps the community can respond with any other ideas or ISV's that may do what you want.
