Batch Server and AOS server

Hi experts,

After the sandbox migrated from IAAS to Self-service, I observed that AOS servers are separated from batch servers (at least from online users form). I was wondering if the actual architecture reflects the same. 

For example, in the IAAS mode, the AOS and Batch servers are on the same VM, but using different services. In Self-service mode, are they on different servers?
