Best method to import invoice data into Solomon (SL) from xml files

We are upgrading our servers and software and we have an old version of BizTalk Server 2006 that is only utilized to grab xml files with invoice data and run custom VB.net code to import the data directly in the SQL tables. I do not think BizTalk is needed and we can use SSIS (integration services) to poll a folder and import the data directly in the sql tables. Has anybody done this before? Do you think this is the best way to import invoices from another LOB  application?

thanks

    Hi Scott,

No - none of the standard web services in SL would allow for that at this time.

Re: Best method to import invoice data into Solomon (SL) from xml files

Hello again. It seems that our support says we cannot do direct database access even though in an old Microsoft article it mentions using ODBC. The 3 methods before were direct database, transaction import and solomon object model. So it seems that since I want an automatic import of invoices, then I will need to use solomon object model. But I see that now you have web services to talk to SL 2011. Can we use web services to import invoices instead?

    Thanks

    Hi Glenn,

You could possibly have Application Server or Windows Task Scheduler launch an Object Model application.

Thanks for your answer. I have not looked into the Solomon utlities yet but it seems that TI is a manual process from the screens. We had a consultant designed a Biztalk solution that polls a folder for invoices in XML format created automatically from another LOB app. It is usually only a few invoices in a batch (around 10) and somebody in acct dept checks the batch to make sure it is OK.We do not want a manual process to import the invoices. I do not think biztalk is needed and can use another tool like SSIS to poll a network share to grab the files to import. I can easily change the xml batch file to another format (CSV). I see old threads (community.dynamics.com/.../41324.aspx ) saying that you have TI, object model, and odbc to enter invoices. I am a .Net developer and we already have the source code that is used to import the invoices. I understand that it will not validate using business rules but I need a technique to automatically import without user intervention. So are these my only options?

    thanks

    Hello Glenn,

The only supported method of importing data into Dynamics SL is Transaction Import and that requires a CSV file format.  Importing data directly into the database tables bypasses any validation checks, such as on account or customer id fields.  Perhaps you can extract the data into CSV files instead.
