Installation of NAV 2018 on Server 2016

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Dear Community,

I´m a new NAV user ad not really used to work with Microsoft Server. I have tried to install NAV on Server 2016. To get a first impression I wanted to install the demo first. But after  installation of NAV 2018 Demo there is a prolem. When I try to start the NAV Server instance by using the Administration Console I receive a message that a dependent Service could not be started. This should be http Service.

It would be great to receive some help to get the System running.

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards

Andreas Stach

I have tried to change the user and the service seems to start ut will be stopped then.

I´m really confused. I have tried to install on a Windows 10 machine ad everything works fine. But the Installation on the Server 2016 still is not able to start the Service. Does anyone kow hot to maage right of "nt authority/network Service"?

    Hi Stefano,

I have installed the DEMO of NAV. There all modules will be installed to the same machine. That is also the way we want to install NAV after having tried the DEMO. By choosing the DEMO installation all processes will be installed automatically.

The service Account for the service which does not start  is NT Authority/NETWORKSERVICE

I have made a screenshot of the SQL Services. Should I use the NT Service/MSSQLLSNAVDEMO user?

Have you installed all modules (SQL Server, NAV Service tier) on the same machine?

Normally this problem is due to service account under these services runs. Try choosing the same account for the NAV service tier as the SQL server is running with. Alternatively try to supply the default service account for the NAV service tier (Network Service) with sysadmin privileges for the SQL server.

There is also another comment (NETLOGON) that the Computer is part of a Workgroup and not part of a Domain. The Logon Service has not to be started  in this configuration.

    Does this help?
