Access to User Preferences

Posted on by 650

Hello,

I have two users that I have set up that have access to inquiry and reports. They are not able to set up their own user preferences nor change their own password. I am not sure which tasks/roles I need to assign to them so that they can perform these tasks. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Well, it is the 'User Password Setup' window that opens when a user goes into User Preferences and clicks on Password, so they would need access to that window.

The 'DEFAULTUSER' security task gives access to this window, by default. This task is given to users through multiple security roles.

That being said, you could create a custom security task, then under 'Microsoft Dynamics GP' for the product, 'Windows' for the type' and 'System' for the series, mark the 'User Password Setup' window, then save changes to the new security task and assign it to users, preferably through a custom security role as well.

    Thanks

    RE: Access to User Preferences

We just recently enabled a password policy for users in our environment and have all the prerequisities enabled in AD and Dynamics in regards to enforcing password policy and allowing them to change their own password when it expires.  Sometimes, they don't make it to the expiration date in AD, and Dynamics doesn't prompt for a password change early, so it would be nice to be able to direct the users to USER PREFERENCES > PASSWORD so they can change their password at will.  All users have the DEFAULT USER role applied to their Dynamics account, but when they go into USER PREFERENCES > PASSWORD it says they do not have permissions.  What role/task could be added to DEFAULT USER to allow this functionality?  Users access Dynamics through Remote App if that makes a difference.

I must stand corrected in here, a user can definitely change their own password from the user preferences window.

Working for too many hours got me confused, Thanks Susan :)

Sorry, but a user can change their own password.  A user can go into User Preferences any time and change their password.  Based on what your active directory allows.  Our users have to change their pw every 42 days, so since they can't always remember when the 42nd day is going to be and GP doesn't give them any reminder like they get when their network pw expires, most users go in the same time every month and change their own pw's before it expires.

    Hello DLashua

A user in Dynamics GP can not change their own passwords, this is an administrative task. As for the user preferences, do you mean the window located on (Microsoft Dynamics GP > User Preferences ) ? If so, this is granted under any Security Roles, as there is a predefined security task (DEFAULTUSER), see below:
