Problem Installing Workflow Utilities Solution

I'm trying to install the latest version of the excellent Dynamics 365 Workflow Tools Solution and hitting a problem along the way.

Essentially, I probably installed a much earlier version several years ago and somewhere down the line, the solution has been removed but the plugin assemblies remain.

When trying to install the solution, it fails with "Plug-in assembly dos not contain the required types or assembly content cannot be updated."

I've run the Delta Plugins utility and established that there is one plugin - msdyncrm.WorkflowTools.SharingRecord - exists in CRM but not in the updated assembly in the latest solution I'm trying to install. From what I've read - and I'm no expert in this area - this could be why the updated solution will not install? If this is the case, would I be safe to unregister this plug-in (we don't use the sharing record workflow utility) and try to import the new solution again? If not, any suggestions as to how to proceed and get the latest solution installed?

Many Thanks.

You must unregister plugin and import latest solution.

    Take backup before unregister.

    Hi

Yes your assumption is correct. This error "Plug-in assembly dos not contain the required types or assembly content cannot be updated" is trying to tell you that you have  Custom Workflow Activity or Activities on CRM and now updating with a DLL that does not have the Workflow Activity class for msdyncrm.WorkflowTools.SharingRecord.

Using plugin registration tool, please check the dependencies of this Workflow Activity and if there is any dependency, remove those and then unregister this CWA. And then try and import the latest version again.

    Thanks.

I can see there are no dependencies for any of the old workflow plug-ins. Do I need to un-register them all, or just the msdyncrm.WorkflowTools.SharingRecord which I believe to be the once causing the issue?

EDIT  -  Actually, I'm not sure I'm looking in the correct place. Where can I see the dependencies from within the plugin registration tool?

If none of the CWAs are used in any of the processes, I would recommend you delete the plugin assembly and import it fresh.

And also take note of this as you will have to do this on other environment as well ex UAT or PROD

If you don't want to go for the above suggestion because of any of the CWA in the DLL is being used,  I would first un-register just the msdyncrm.WorkflowTools.SharingRecord and try the import.

Unregistering just the one did the trick. Thanks for your guidance!
