Archive RMS HQ data

Hi folks,

I am running RMS 2 CU5 Hotfix 40 (latest version) and I wonder if there is an option to archive HQ data to another database for future reporting/analysis/auditing.

Or, if you are already using data warehouse software for RMS, please share which solution you are using.

Please advise.

Thanks,

...Alex

    Hello Alex,

There is not a way to archive information in Headquarters.

If your database is growing to large, you can delete completed worksheets in Headquarters Administrator or move to a full version of SQL.

You can also use the following Knowledge base article to delete old transactional information to make more room:

    Thank you,

    Hi Scott,

What tables are safe to delete rows without compromising transactional or relational data?

FYI, I am already running full SQL 2005 version on HQ.

Finally, I don't have a CustomerSource account, could you please print out the article in PDF format and post it here?

    Thanks,

    ...Alex

One thing I do to shrink the HQ DB is to periodically delete old info from the Event Log which is just a log of the HQ client connections from each store. You can do that by going to View/Event Log, click the red X and delete entries from all stores before whatever date you want. I usually delete everything older than a month. You can save the info to a file first if you want.

    Hi Scott,

I finally got access to the CustomerSource portal to review the article you suggested, good one.

Does Microsoft have a similar article on what tables to archive and corresponding SQL statements?

All I need is to retain transactional data for reporting and auditing purposes.

    Thanks,

Hi Alex , in case you just need it to retain transactional data for reporting and auditing purposes , simply  you need to backup this database , and restore it on a different database name , which you can use it for reporting , I already have a historical data for reporting and analysis using this solution , also I create a QRP report can get my sales data from my historical data where I using another HQ database  for analysis and comparing

    Hi Ahmed,

Idea is to be able to move or export data from live HQ database to an "archive database" to offload data from live database to enhance database and application performance.
Problem on backing up HQ database and restoring to another database is the backed up data is a point-in-time data, not an aggregated one.

If you have a process to export/move data, I'd be interested.

    Thanks for reading,
