"Does not contain" option in advance find

Hi,

This could be a very basic question but I can't find the answer and it's driving me potty.

I am trying to create a list of contacts which excludes the word "Chair" from a particular field (eg Chair of housing). But if I create query which says [fieldx] [does not contain] [chair] this doesn't seem to work, the Chairs are still in the list.

It's particularly frustrating as if I do the opposite [contains] then it's works as I would expect it to.

Am I missing something basic? Or could it be something to do with how our system has been set up?
Thanks

Christine

I know this doesn't help a lot but I cannot replicate your experience using 2013 SP1.  I performed you exact example - one record with the word "chair" and another with "chairs" and if I search for does not contain chair, neither was returned as expected.  Is there a case-sensitivity issue here perhaps?

type "chair *"   it will get only records without word chair. Note the space between chair and *. If you want to exclude chair and chairs type "Chair*"

I have the same problem and I'm still not able to find any answer to it, despite

    Hi Christine,

Can you give the query as follows?

    "Does not Contain" *chair*

This will exclude all the records with word chair.

    Hope this will help you.

Add * both as prefix and suffix to the word chair and then it should give you expected results

Although your query us right and system must give you results for that but somehow there's a problem
