Repacking of Materials.

Hi,
I would like to have your suggestions and help in regards how to handle the situation below while migrating to Dynamics Nav.

My company is in grease repacking business.
We receive the bulk chemicals in 55 Gallon Containers and repack them into 50 lbs containers .
The issue is that one 55 Gallon Container could produce anywhere between 11 to 15 50 lbs containers depending on many factors during the repacking and the raw material batch.

Any suggestion how to handle this situation?

Our current process is once the repacking is done we get an update from production and update the stock accordingly (how many containers used and how many containers produced)

 Thank you .

for the processing, inventory,... use the little unit lbs. you can set more than one unit per item with conversion value.

    Hi,

we are doing a lot of implementations in Chemical companies, and repacking is always done with production orders.

For every packaging of the item, we create a separate item. In you example you would have an item for the product in 55 Gallon and an item for the same product in 50 lbs.

All items have a bas unit of measure KG (because we are in Europe), but in you case they all could have lbs as a base unit of measure. Additionally, you can define extra units of measure like Piece, Gallon, ...

Other considerations could be, always use description for the product and description 2 for the description of the packaging.

For repack, we create production orders. In the bill of material, you can put the item in the 55 Gallon containers, the empty 50 lbs containers, and additional stuff like labels, ..

If you want to reenter the empty 55 Gallon containers in stock, you can do it with a negative line in the bill of material and in the consumption of the production order.

    Kind regards,

    Francis

    Hi Francis,

Thank you for your answer, What if the final product varies from the original production order:

Ex: Production order says 1 Big drum = 12 small pails,   But the actual production was either 10 (in case of waste)  or sometimes 14 (in case of supplier over fills the drums)

    Thanks & Regards

    R.

    Hi Jonathan,

we have tried to implement this solution but it doesn't work as every batch has a different outcome , anywhere between 10 and 15 small units..

    Thank you

    Best Regards

I too would like to know how to deal with this.

We deal in sugar and flour and other food ingredients and often the end result doesn't match up with the input amount.  We too can end up with more end product than expected due to temperature and humidity levels.

    Hi,

in that case, you will not be able to use the alternative units of measure. You will have to stick to one base unit of measure lbs.

What we do in these situations, is making all orders in base unit of measure.

On sales orders, you could add the nbr of big drums as tekst, or do a calculation based on the item unit of measure, to print the expected nbr of drums.

At least, these are the options when using the standard. Of course, you could do some modifications, but that was something you wanted to avoid.

For some of our customers, we create a lot number per pallet (or could also be per big drum), making it possible to specify the quantity per pallet.

You could do this manually with the standard, but we did some customisations to make it easier to enter them.

    Francis
