How to create a new company using an existing company

Hello,

We have NAV 5.0 (SP1). Currently we have three companies setup Retail, Corporate and Russell in our database. We want to have a new company (new clean company to start fresh in) setup named Apparel. So that when I open the database I will have Retail, Russell, Corporate and Apparel. This new company (Apparel) needs to be a duplicate of the Russell company as I need the modifications we made in Russell to also be in the Apparel company.

How do I accomplish this task? Really appreciate help.

Oswald

You need to make backup of Russell company. Then change name of Russell company to Apparel. After that, you will need to make restore of Russell company backup.

I guess, you want to clean entries in this new company. You can make Report for deleting all entry tables.

    Hi Aleksandar,

Thanks for the reply. Just for curiosity, I have created the new company in the same database like this: Is this procedure wrong?

I Logged in to the Database

Click on Files --> Company --> New --> Gave Company Name APPAREL
And I defined "Wholesale" as Company Type during the Company setup. It successfully created the new company.

Then I logged in back to the New Company APPAREL --> Click on Administration --> IT Administration --> General Setup--> Click on Setup Checklist
Click on Functions --> Copy Data --> I Selected RUSSELL from where I want to copy data.

I am new to NAV. I do not know if this process of creating the blank, fresh company from an existing company is correct. If it is wrong, please instruct how to delete all the records, clean entries in your solution.

    Really appreciate your help.

    Hi Oswald.

You are in the right direction.  From the set-up checklist, the next step is to copy the applicable data from Russel Company to the new company such as the accounting period, number series, COA, account schedules, dimensions, etc.

    Thanks/

    Hi Oswald:

You need to decide which tables and related records are applicable to your new company.   For example, will the new company use the same COA, bank, customer/ vendor/ item lists, etc. existing from Russell?  If yes, then copy these information.  I suggest that you need to work with your accountant to determine which data are relevant to the new company.

Optionally, you can copy these master records to Apparel since you mentioned that this is a duplicate company.  However, you need to manually delete/ replace those records that are not applicable in the new company.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Cecilio,

Thank you so much for taking time to explain. This is Great! I will work with our accountant deciding what master records to be copied to the new company.

    Really appreciate your help again!

    Thank you.

    Oswald
