Unable to open customizations dictionary

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I'm getting this error 'unable to open customizations dictionary' when attempting to import a package file.  ALL users are logged out.  I'm logged in as 'sa' (not sure if that even matters).  I tried to import through GP.  I also tried to use the Report Writer import function.  Neither of these actions allowed me to import the package file.  Any idea on why I keep getting this error and how to correct it?

As mentioned, a reboot of the server normally resolves this type of message when importing package files into Dynamics GP.

    Thanks

    Hi Fonda,

No you do not need to be using the GP Client on the SQL Server to import report packages. The reason I suggest the reboot is that in my environment the report dictionary is shared out from the same server that hosts SQL and rebooting it releases any locks on the dictionary.

Hi Kirk!  Thanks for your response.  I don't have to be on the server application to import package files do I?  Currently I am trying to make the import on a local machine.

    Hi Fonda,

The majority of the time I have this problem a reboot of the GP server resolves it. Can you reboot the server and try again?

    Regards,

    Kirk
