Pop-Up Window Placement

I would like to change the default position of pop-up windows when entering data into GP.

A practical example: Often I utilize data from another application (typically Excel) to plug into GP.  I typically open & populate a Sales Transaction as follows:

  • a new Sales Transaction Entry
  • Sales Customer Detail Entry
  • Sales Ship To Address Entry

Each of these windows opens toward the left-center part of the screen, which covers-up the data that I want to view in Excel.

The solution: I would like to change the defaults so that these windows open to the upper-right.  How can this be accomplished?

    Here is an article that can help:

    849576 The WindowMax line in the DEX.INI file

    mbs.microsoft.com/.../KBDisplay.aspx

    You need to play around with the numbers until you find the desired location.

    Thanks for the reply.  It sounds promising.

    Unfortunately, I cannot access this without a CustomerSource or PartnerSource ID & password, neither of which I have.  Can you provide access to this document without these requirements?

    The information is below but I suggest you get access to CustomerSource otherwise you are not going to be able to get hotfixes/SP's and other critical information.

    Question

    What is the WindowMax= line in the Dex.ini?

    Answer

    This line is used to determine if the main window in Dynamics\eEnterprise will be maximized to full screen (this is the default setting) or smaller.

    If WindowMax=TRUE, then the main window will be maximized.

    If WindowMax=FALSE, then the main window will be minimized. The user can then configure the Window position in the Dex.ini if they want. Below are the default positions, but can be changed if needed.

    WindowPosX=44

    WindowPosY=44

    WindowWidth=768

    WindowHeight=537

    NOTE: If WindowMax=TRUE and the above four lines are included in the DEX.INI file, they will be ignored. They are only used if WindowMax=FALSE.

    This is great info Jonathan.  I'm testing it on my machine (GP 2010, SP3) on Windows 7 but each time I log out of GP and log back in, the WindowMax=FALSE setting is changed back to TRUE.  Why would that be?

    Hi Frank,

    Here are the steps I did:

    1. I changed my dex.ini line to equal false.

    2. Launch GP and could see that my windows were larger.

    3. Logged into GP.

    4. Opened a GP window and changed the location before I closed it.

    5. Reduced the main window in size and then closed it.

    6. Checked my Dex.ini and my line was still False.

    7. Launched GP again and saw that my main window was still the size that I reduced it to.

    Are you maximizing windows before you close GP? If so that will update that line in the Dex.ini to equal true.
