Currently my devBox is at this product version 10.0.35 and I want to update it to 10.0.37

When i got to my devBox details in LCS, I can see Quality update 10.0.35 and Service update 10.0.37

1. What's the difference between these two and what does each one do?

2. If i want to update to 37 version, do i need to only click on service update and ignore quality update? And that's it?

3. When i click on /view update/ for service update in my devBox details in LCS, it takes me to /Binary updates/ shall i select all hotfixes then save the package?

4. After my package is saved, shall i go my devBox and apply updates and choose the package i saved and that's it? Is there anything missing i need to do to make the version update successful?

5. What's the difference if i do step 3 or if i go to shared asset library -- deployable package -- i can find service update 37.

5a. Is it the same?

5b. and if i click on it, it gets downloaded but not sure what to do next with it as apply updates seems to not have import

6. Should devBox be running or stopped?

7. Should we build and sync everything after?

8. Is it same steps if we update UAT environments?

Hi Deldyn,

A lot of questions to answer. I will provide my two cents...

1. A quality update contains hotfixes for a specific version. A service update contains new platform and application enhancements and bug fixes.

2. Yes, Installing only the Service update for 10.0.37 is sufficient as it is a cumulative update.

3. Is this question related to the service or quality update? I'm aware of the option to choose individual hotfixes on quality updates, but you can better start the quality update directly.

4. If you saved a package, then yes, you can apply this on your DevBox.

5a. This might not be the same. I can't check myself now if and what are the differences. Like mentioned above, if you want to install 10.0.37, then use the Apply updates feature on the environment page.

5b. If the package is available on the shared asset library, you would need to go to the project asset library and fetch the deployable package for the service update into the project. Then the package becomes available for applying the updates.

6. The VM should be running, otherwise the pre-validation and update will fail.

7. No. The deployment will move the compiled dlls and will perform a DBsync. So no specific build or sync afterwards is required.

8. For updating a cloud hosted environment, the process is the same if you install standard Microsoft packages.

3. It's for service update, when you click on it as i said, it takes me to binary updates page so i selected all hotfixes then saved the package - is that ok?

5b. Not sure what you mean by "fetch the deployable package for the service update into the project"

I was already in project asset library, i found a software deployable package called service update 10.0.37 -- but the only thing i was able to do is download it by clicking on it, how could i use it to apply updates from here instead of clicking service update from environment details page

1. In general do you know how long does it take?
2. Would i lose pending changes?
