Integration of WhatsApp for Approve/Reject of Workflows in D365 F&O

Hello,

We have a requirement for the use of WhatsApp for the Approval or Rejection of Workflows of POs and PRs.

Is there standard Integration available in FO for WhatsApp?

I want to know the feasibility or approach which we can try to achieve it?

Hi,

I am afraid you can use WhatsApp to approve or reject workflows in D365FO.

However, I know you can send message to WhatsApp from Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations. To achieve it, WhatsApp endpoints can be consume via twilio.

Hi Raj,

This is really interesting.

While this isn't available out of the box, it seems all the building blocks are available to achieve it.

WhatsApp (Meta) have APIs for interactive messages using its business accounts: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/whatsapp/guides/interactive-messages/

There are workflow APIs available in D365 Finance, as workflow can be interacted with in Power Automate. If they don't suffice, custom services or OData actions could also be used to achieve workflow approval.

Combine the APIs at either end with some middleware, Power Automate or Azure perhaps, and there is no reason why this could not be built.

Ludwig Reinhard recently did a blog post about an WhatsApp integration, but a way different scenario than yours.

I'd have a look at it, and maybe get some inspiration on how to do this.

Thank you all for your answers,

I will look into the suggestions suggested by you all.

We need to start with the simple Acknowledgement message to Vendor/Customer related to Payment Details rather than Workflow Approve/Reject.

Looking forward for the more suggestions from the Community experts.

How about for the simple acknowledgement:

Business Event -> Power Automate/Logic App -> WhatsApp API

I gave the WhatsApp API a try last night (it's an App in Meta like Instagram or Facebook), but there was an outage affecting test phone numbers so I didn't get very far.
