RMA for Sales Order invoiced via a project

I am trying to create a RMA for a sales order that was invoiced using project management. When creating the RMA and using the 'Find Sales Order' option, only sales order not related to a project are available to select. Has anyone seen this and know of a standard solution to relate the original sales order to the RMA?
