This seems very simple but the users guide and help are not helpful. Nor could I find previous posts on the matter.
I'm setting up RMS 2.0.0155 and I need to set up the hardware on each register. On the receipt printers the register properties want me to specify Windows or OPOS (I have no idea) and the printer "name." Maybe this is just the name given in the Printers and Faxes menu, but I'm hoping for some reassurance in this. (FWIW, the printers are an Epson TM-T88IV connected by USB and an HP LaserJet P1102w on USB). I also have an Adaptus 3800g laser scanner and APG T371-BL16195 cash drawer, none of which are readily identifiable in my device manager. (The CC reader and PIN pad won't tie in to RMS.)
Assuming all works as it should, I need only give the right "name" for each one and the software will find it, correct? Or do I just give my cash drawer a cutesy name like "Iggy" and expect RMS to figure it all out for me?

Mike,
Based on the hardware you listed. I will assume the scanner and CC reader is USB and should be plug and play other than configuring the scanner itself. I will also assume the cash drawer is cabled to the printer (Epson) not USB.
At this point you have to decide if the printer will control the cash drawer functions using the windows software provided by Epson. Or if you are going to use OPOS drivers.
OPOS is OLE for Retail POS. Epson also provides OPOS drivers for the receipt printer and cash drawer. You might want to do some reading up on OPOS before you start. OPOS require you to give each device a name during the OPOS setup. For example, 'printer' for your Epson and 'drawer' for the APG cash drawer. You would use these OPOS names in the printer and drawer setup in RMS.
If you choose to use windows, the name is actual the full name listed in your device list. You must use the full name as listed. And then configure the Epson software to control the functions of the cash drawer. If you go this route you don't enable the cash drawer in RMS.
Both ways are acceptable and your choice.
You didn't mention the model of the pin pad. These are almost always setup as a OPOS device. I would have to have more information to help on it.
I hope this helps.
